Grass Generic 1.0 + ANIMATED Grass Test 1 (all IL-2 versions) (SFS & MODS versions)

This has been a joint project by different members here & will change , add to it as time goes on

There are currently 3 different downloads below ,
They are ...
GRASS GENERIC 1.0
ANIMATED GRASS TEST 1
HERBS + DIFFERENT SEASON GRASS


Choose which one you want or download all 3

= GRASS GENERIC 1.0 =



Choose your installation type ...
MODS folder version
1. Copy the folder ! GRASS_GEN_1.0 to your MODS folder

2. Add content of static_ADD.txt to your static.ini file
(at the bottom of the file is fine!)

3. Start IL-2, got FMB & open the Berlin_grass_gen_1.0.mis, here you can quickly find all new Grass objects

SFS version
1. Add the following to bottom of your .rc file ;

@sfs MOUNT G_Grass1.SFS

(usually find the .rc file either in root of STD folder or in your root mod pack folder)

2. Add content of static_ADD.txt to your static.ini file
(at the bottom of the file is fine!)

3. Start IL-2, got FMB & open the Berlin_grass_gen_1.0.mis, here you can quickly find all new Grass objects

Contents / explanation / face count
grass_large_long = very large area of long grass //1762 faces total
grass_large_short = very large area of short grass //1762 faces total
grass_med_long = medium area of long grass //474 faces total
grass_med_short = medium area of short grass //474 faces total
grass_small_long = small area of long grass //130 faces total
grass_small_short = small area of short grass //130 faces total
tuft_small_long = tufts of long grass in a very small spot //26 faces total
tuft_small_short = tufts of short grass in a very small spot //26 faces total


Single LOD set to 8000 (adjust to your needs)

Why use SFS version ?
An SFS is a packed & or compressed single file, it is the IL-2 native file type, using the SFS version will improve overall system performance. This SFS has been packed using Maximum compression. Its recommended to only use the Mod version if you choose to edit any of the files

OPTIONAL steps...
4. Copy Berlin_grass_ANIMATED-TEST-1.mis to your missions

5. Start IL-2, got FMB & open the Berlin_grass_ANIMATED-TEST-1.mis, here you can quickly new find the ANIMATED Grass

Please try this ... It is a first test by me for animated Grass, remember this is early test !
Use both ANIM_tuft_small_short & ANIM_tuft_small_long together to get a more natural look, this is because they are animated with 2 different timings so you must use both to get something that does not look robotic or too digital

Works great in v4.14.1 Doc! Many thanks! If you could do maybe option for 10m x 10m patches that would be great. Less product placement :D

The images look really great ! & I'm very pleased that you like it.,🤗

I can see some nice edits already. I need to update with a new video.

This was first try. I can include what you ask + I've got some ideas for new version. Perhaps some flowers? Patches of wild flowers?. Will try animating them so our landscape has some more life & movement.

Further user editing...
It's possible to adjust the gr.tga in textures folder but you will need to adjust the alpha channel also.

The gr.tga is the master texture used by all the meshes. If you like you can effect each grass patch differently , by copying the master gr.tga into one of grass types folder, editing the gr.mat in the grass patch you want changed & edit gr.mat & change path from ..\textures\gr.tga to just gr.tga

haha ! pretty cool Gumpy !

not sure if you tried yet but the 2 animated grass tufts are set to different timings , if you use both it should dissolve the obvious loop of using only 1


my original grass textures looks a little simple ! with more effort im sure we can get it looking just same as the new gen sim, its not like they are using anything that '46 can not do , its just their textures are just way better
im pretty certain that even with this new addition that someone with much better artistic skills could quite easily make it look very similar to new gen

& already what you've done looking very cool !
